History

1900

Starting point for the creation of Eucerin was the application by Dr. Lifschütz more than 100 years ago for a patent using Eucerin as a vehicle to produce a stable emulsion. Dr. Lifschütz' development of Eucerin can be seen as a medical revolution of its time. The researcher developed an extremely smooth basic ointment and gave it a very pleasant name Eucerin - the beautiful wax.

1903

At that time there seemed to be no necessity to have a brand name on a product. The first Eucerin ointment was called merely Paul Beiersdorf und Co. 

1907

Professor Unna, who can be seen as the doyen of modern dermatology, asked very high standards of an ointment: it had to keep well, the consistency had to be stable and smooth and should not irritate but provide protection and care to the skin. In his opinion Eucerin seemed to meet these characteristics. Quite euphoric he wrote in 1907: "Eucerin Ointment is agreeable for the pharmacist due to its stable and smooth consistency, easily prescribed by the doctor and it creates a good feeling for the patient due to its smoothness and cooling effect.“ 

1911

The first Eucerin products available in Germany were Eucerin loose powder for the treatment wounds, Eucerin Iodine ointment and Euzerin Soap.

1920

In the 1920s when Eucerin was sold  in  the  US  for  the  first time, Dr. Herzog, Beiersdorf licensee in those days, imported Eucerinum anhydricum from Hamburg and produced a cream which he called Eucerin Original.

1938

This advertisement in a German magazine for dermatologists shows the long relationship and importants of Eucerin in the daily life of professionals.

1950

It was not before 1950 until the next Eucerin product appeared: the pH5 Eucerin Ointment. The product was created for the purpose of working in an alkaline milieu, a real innovation in those days since it was the first product which guaranteed preservation and restoration of the acid protection skin layer, which is highly relevant even today.

1960

In beginning the product was solely recommended for the treatment of skin diseases in the surgery. Doctors were quite enthusiastic about the product efficacy. The product was applied not only for the treatment of skin diseases but also for everyday problems of all kinds, especially when own experience showed what the product could do to sore hands, due to frequent washing. This is why the product was more frequently recommended by doctors for their patients. This in turn established the basis for a successful brand recommended by doctors.

In the 1970s Eucerin started to have product advertising that was targeted directly at consumers.

By launching pH5 Eucerin Lotion in 1978 the starting signal for the introduction of a complete body care line was given.

1980

In very short intervals further products were launched like washing lotion, syndet and cream. Very soon the brand became the specialist brand for medical skincare, suitable for all types of skin due to  pure substances, especially, however, for sensitive skin.

1984

This concept proved very successful on the German market with the result that internationalization of the brand actively started in the 80s, for example Spain in 1984.

1992

In 1992 the first products with Urea, a natural moisturizing factor, were launched. In order to clearly distinguish the products from pH5 Eucerin they were called Laceran. 

1994

In 1994 the first Lotion and Cream containing Omega fatty acids were launched, which were specially developed for the treatment of Atopic Dermatitis.

1995

At the same time the pH5 Eucerin range was extended by pH5 Eucerin Shower Oil, a highly innovative product. This was the first shower oil which stopped dryness of the skin already while cleansing it.

1996

In 1996 Eucerin entered the face care market. By launching Eucerin Hydro Balance and Lipo Balance Eucerin undertook the first step to offer a medical relevant solution for the extremely sensitive facial skin.

1997

At the same time we reached a break through with our sun care range by developing the 2 phase prophylaxis system, the first substance to stop sun allergy.

1998

In 1998 the skin care program covered sensitive skin, sun protection, facial care and dry skin. Laceran, the former dry skin offer was re-named into Eucerin. Since then Eucerin became the global market brand name and stands for a medically competent solution for all kinds of skin problems.

In summer 1998 the first clinically documented Q10 anti wrinkle cream was launched.

In the same year a complete product line with an emphasis on the needs of mature skin followed.

1999

A cleansing- and care product for the reactive skin was added, containing the active ingredient Fucogel which perceptibly calms stressed skin.

In the same year a complete line for adult consumers with impure, acneprone skin conditions was launched.

2000

Eucerin Face Care Vital Retinol fights effectively wrinkles, increases firmness and delivers attractive radiance for the special needs and a visible vitality of demanding skin.

2004

In 2004 Eucerin launches the contour firming cream Modelliance.

2005

Anti-Pigment Fluid: the solution to effectively fight skin discolorations.

In 2005 Anti-Redness Line was launched, a unique, clinically proven skincare line of dermocosmetic products that provides immediate and long-term relief to skin prone to redness, diffuse flushing and visible capillaries.

2006

Eucerin launches the revolutionary anti-wrinkle range Hyaluron-Filler. Since 2006 it is one of the top selling Anti-Age products in pharmacies.

2007

Eucerin Dry Skin range - the medical heart of the brand – was relaunched. This highly effective skincare line offers specific solutions and proven relief for all kinds of dry skin conditions.

2008

Eucerin launches DermoDENSIFYER, an innovative Anti-Age care to renew and redensify – without chemical peeling.

2009
